Learn a New Language!
LingoLearning offers programs for all age groups because we believe that you are never too young and never too old to learn a foreign language.
Discover why LingoLearning is rated by readers as the top Language Learning Program in the suburban Philadelphia, Main Line area.
Helena Malarkey started LingoKids in the fall of 2010. She is the mother of three boys and was born and raised in Germany.
In her first year of studies at the University of Heidelberg she met her husband, a foreign exchange student from the US. Having lived together in Germany for almost 8 years, the family relocated to the US in 2001. She has a German Law Degree and has also studied European Law at the University of Strassbourg, France. Helena has taken language classes in Salamanca, Spain and Oxford, England.
Raising her sons to be bilingual, she is a strong advocate for cultural exchange. Helena is the founder of LingoKids LLC because she believes in the importance of teaching our children foreign languages early and exposing them to other cultures.
What Our Students Say
I’m writing you today because I took my 5-yr old son to Spanish story time. I was beyond impressed with Ms. Rita! She’s extremely enthusiastic and kept the children’s attention effortlessly. All the children enjoyed themselves and Ms. Rita made learning Spanish fun.
Just thought you should know.
How much will my child be able to learn – will he/she be able to talk, read, or write in his or her second language?
In second language learning, comprehension skills precede expression; this means that your child is still learning and receiving multiple benefits from the classes even if they can’t yet put entire sentences together in the target language.
It takes time! It took them several years to learn English and they are still and will always be learning how to better use their mother tongue correctly. Only one generation ago, parents would not teach their children another language, even if that language was their native language. Instead they would focus on teaching their children English “the proper way”.
Today, we know that learning a second (and sometimes even a third) language is not harmful – on the contrary, it not only gives those children the chance to learn two (or three) languages proficiently and with ease, but these children also benefit from a deeper understanding of languages in general.
That being said, a language cannot be learned in a few weeks – but even a few weeks of early language exposure can give your child a head start to learning and enjoying a foreign language for the rest of their lives.
How much homework will my child get?
We want your child to enjoy our language classes! We are trying to make language learning fun in a least-stress-as-possible environment.
We use very few handouts, especially in the younger grades. Seeing a foreign language in writing before developing an ear for the phonetics of the language can be confusing. We will suggest optional activities to do at home, activities in which parents could certainly participate, i.e. watching a YouTube video.
What should my child bring to class?
Your child will receive a LingoKids folder the first day of class – please take a look to see what we have been doing and/or ask your child to describe their experiences after each class.
Please pack a healthy snack for your child. We are an after-school program and the kids are usually VERY hungry after a long school day. After they have been able to “refuel” they are much more susceptible to learning.
It is important that you let us know about any allergies or dietary needs your child may have.
What does it cost to enroll my child/ren? Do you have a discount for siblings?
$160 ($145 for each additional sibling) and $200 for the TESD, ($180 for each additional sibling).
Payment must be made in full at the time of initial enrollment. There is a discount for additional siblings as well as a discount if you enroll your child for both sessions at the same time.
